Gerard
graduated from Sydney University in 1967 as a pharmacist and opened
his own pharmacy at the age of 26.
He introduced
the Webstercare range of blister pack systems into Australia in
1980. This has revolutionised how medication is administered in
aged care facilities throughout the country and New Zealand.
Today Gerard
is the Managing Director of Webstercare, a company that specialises
in medication management systems and medication compliance. Gerard
spends most of his time and energy on the development of systems
and processes that complement the principle of the Quality Use of
Medicine. Over 40% of all the pharmacies in Australia now use a
Webstercare system of one sort or another. As a direct response
to a need identified by Central Australian Jane Josif of Ngaanyatagere
Gerard has also developed the Clamshell concept.
Webstercare
has also developed a desktop machine that utilises robotics to fill
a Multi Dose Webster-pak with a week's supply of medication. This
robot has international appeal for those pharmacies wishing to provide
medication compliance services to clients in a cost-effective manner.
Gerard is a
Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists a Member
of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the Pharmaceutical Society
of Australia Married with three sons, Gerard currently lives in
Sydney.
